How to Play IdleDegen

IdleDegen is a free idle clicker about a 9-to-5 degenerate gambler. You grind a day job (and increasingly absurd side hustles) for Cash, climb branching skill trees, then walk into a flashy neon social casino and risk it all to win more — or lose it and crawl back to the grind. This guide covers everything a new player needs.

The core loop

Click dollar bills to earn Cash ($).
Buy companies and hire employees that earn Cash passively ($/sec) — the idle spine.
Hit earning milestones that award Skill Points and pop a celebration.
Spend Skill Points on perks for permanent boosts.
Risk your Cash in the casino to multiply it (or lose it).
Lose it all? Back to the grind. That tension is the game.
When the grind tops out, prestige for a permanent multiplier.

Earning Cash

Two sources: clicking and passive income. Early on you click the big dollar bill yourself. The real money comes from owning businesses whose employees work while you don't. Keep an eye out for the floating Lucky Bonus — a glowing icon that drifts across the Work Floor. Click it before it leaves to grab a short, punchy income boost. Bonuses are always positive and run one at a time, so grab every one you can.

Offline earnings: the game keeps earning while you're away (capped at a few hours, raised by Lifestyle perks). You'll always see a summary of what you banked when you return.

Careers: companies & employees

You climb from 9-to-5 nobody to richest person alive by buying companies and hiring employees. Buy a company once, then stack its four escalating employee tiers. Companies unlock in a waterfall — you can only buy the next one after you own the previous. The Side Hustle boosts your click; every other company earns passively while you sleep.

Skill Points & perks

Lifetime earnings unlock milestones, and each milestone grants Skill Points. Spend them on permanent perks across three domains:

Career Perks — one perk track per company, gated on owning that company's roles. You can't take the "head chef" perk until you've actually hired one, so perks and the job ladder tell one story. These boost click value or passive income.
Lifestyle — quality-of-life upgrades, chiefly growing your offline-earning cap.
Degen Paths — casino perks: bigger payouts, reduced house edge, and loss rebates, plus cosmetic flash. These are where the casino tilts in your favor.

The casino

Tap the Casino button in the nav to risk your Cash across a dozen games — Slots and Blackjack are open from the start, and the rest unlock as your lifetime earnings climb. Wins and losses only move your current balance.

Important: casino winnings do not count toward lifetime earnings — only honest work does. So gambling can't shortcut your milestones, skill points, or story progress. The grind is the spine; the casino is the thrill.

Prestige, challenges & achievements

When the grind tops out, Cash Out & Start Over (prestige) resets your run but grants a permanent multiplier — and keeps your perks, achievements, and story. For a different test, take a constrained challenge run for a one-off reward. Achievements track your milestones and casino exploits, with endless tiers for the truly committed.

The story

A five-chapter authored story unfolds as a non-blocking narrator strip on the Work Floor, with branching choices and multiple endings. You can keep clicking while it plays — it never interrupts the game. The later chapters only reveal themselves once you've prestiged and kept looping.
